33rd National Farmers Day Celebration started with 8 – day Exhibition at Heroes Park near the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, the Asanti Regional capital.
The climax of the celebration comes off on Friday 1st December,2017.
The theme for this year’s celebration; “Farming for Foods and Jobs” is appropraite and relevant to achiveing food security in Ghana within the context of a phenomenal growth in population and increasing unemployment which is a major challenge to the country’s development.
“Farming for Food and Jobs” was chosen as the theme to reflect the important role of the Agricultural Sector to the economic development of the country. It was also to re-emphasize its contribution to all the other sectors of the economy. As we all know, the Agricultural sector has been the main economic backbone of the country since independence and still contributes significantly to the nation’s development by way of employment generation and revenue for the country.
‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ is a flagship program of the government which is aimed at produing enough food to feed the nation, export the surpluses, reduce excessive food import and generate employment for Ghanaians. The focus of the programme is to create jobs for the teeming unemployed youth in the agriculture and allied sectors. The programe arouses the civic responsility of all citizens to plant a seed of any kind during the farming season to green Ghana.
