As a result of recent unscientific outbursts by some that Ghana’s agriculture is in a deplorable state and that there is likely to be hunger, the MOFA PPMED/SRID has decided to present the true state of agriculture in Ghana. This is based on scientific evidence obtained through collaborative work by both Ghana Statistical Service and the PPMED of MOFA Ghana.

Observations:

  1. Between 2006 and 2012, Agricultural GDP (AgGDP) at 2006 Constant Prices increased from  GHC5,415 million to GHC6,674 million (GHC1,259 million increase) representing 23% growth in AgGDP over the 7 year period.
  2. 2.  AgGDP growth in 2007 was -1.7% and is the only time over the period 2006-2012 that AgGDP actually DECLINED.
    1. 3.   Conclusion. The only time there has been actual DECLINE in Agricultural Production is when the GROWTH RATE was NEGATIVE in 2007. There has since then been NO DECLINE IN AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION between 2009 and 2012 and the Food and Agriculture Sector is NOT IN A DEPLORABLE STATE BY ANY OBJECTIVE ASSESSMENT
