Agribusiness Unit

Background

The Agribusiness Support Division (ABSD) of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture was established in 2012 and tasked with the role of facilitating investment into the agriculture sector by providing technical information and matchmaking services to investors and agribusinesses.

The Agribusiness Support Division is also now poised to strengthen capacity of local agribusinesses through capacity building in collaboration with relevant institutions.

In 2010, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture prepared the Medium Term Agriculture Sector Investment Plan (METASIP) as an implementation vehicle for the Food and Agriculture Sector Development Policy (FASDEP II). METASIP emphasizes the importance of value chain development and private sector investment into the agriculture sector.

Functions of the ABSD

The main functions of the Agribusiness Support Division are the following:

  1. Facilitation of investment into the agriculture sector and
  2. Support to small/medium scale local agribusinesses.

The Agribusiness Support Division has developed a number of outputs which investors and agribusinesses will find as useful resources in their investment journey.
