Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Minister for Food and Agriculture on behalf of the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo inaugurated the Board of Directors of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture on Tuesday 11th August 2021.
Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto says government is committed to raising the country's cocoa production also find new markets to improve the country’s standing in the cocoa value chain. He recounted the advent effects of COVI-19 on the demand for Cocoa products in the international market.
The Minister added that, government’s determination to make the cocoa industry a lucrative one considering the fact that, cocoa had been the backbone of the economy for over a century and still contributes to Ghana’s export earnings.
The Hon. Minister urged the board, chaired by Mr Peter Mac Manu to help restore the country’s pride as a vibrant cocoa producing country. He said Mr Peter Mac Manu has considerable experience with good qualities to help revive the industry
The Hon. Minister described the task ahead of the board members as onerous but expressed confidence in the calibre of personalities who, he said, were capable of delivering.
The board would be supervised by the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a passionate advocate for the cocoa industry.
Speaking on behalf of the board, Mr Peter Mac Manu said the team would work hard to revive the cocoa industry and consolidate the gains made over the period
Other members of the board are the Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD, Mr Joseph Boahen Aidoo; Nana Johnson Mensa, Nana Obeng Akrofi , Mr Edward Okoh Ampofo of Cocoa Health & Extension Division, Mr, Ernest Kwamina Yedu Addision the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Hon. Yaw Frimpong Addo Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Hon. Herbet Krapa the deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr cahrles Kofi Adu Boahen of the ministry of Finance, Hon. Kwadjo Ashanti and Nana Adwoa Donkua.
