The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) yesterday received a GHc50, 000 cheque donation from UniBank Ghana, while an Agro Chemical Company, Rainbow Agroscience Company based in Tema donated 32 cartons of agro chemical towards the organisation of the 33rd National Farmers’ Day to be hosted in Kumasi Ashanti Region of Ghana.
Presenting the donation, Mr. Clifford Mettle, the Executive Director of UniBank Ghana said the company was proud to associate with farmers that prevail over all obstacles to contribute to the development of the country.
11,000 youths in direct jobs in four regions, 28,000 hectares cultivated.
The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has reiterated the commitment of government to collaborate with the private sector in enhancing the development of agriculture in the country.
Mr. Philip Kwaku Agyemang of the Brong Ahafo Region has been honoured as the 2017-National Best Farmer.
He picked up a $100,000 cash prize at the 33rd National Farmers Day celebration at the Heroes Park in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, which was under the theme, ‘Farming for food and jobs’.
The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) has been recognized as the Most Accessible and Responsive Public Institution for 2017 by Ghana’s leading Policy Think Tank, IMANI Africa.
MOFA was among five top ministries to receive the award at a special ceremony held at Tang Palace Hotel on Wednesday evening under the Inspirational Public Sector Leadership Awards (IPSLA) 2017.
The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), representative to Ghana, Mr. Abebe Haile Gabriel has donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to the government of Ghana. The donations is intended for the training of trainees as part of measures to fight the Fall Army worm. The donation was made at a short ceremony at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in Accra.
