The Nexus Resource Platform is the leading global knowledge hub for managing and sharing resources on the Water, Energy and Food Security Nexus. It enables practitioners, researchers and policymakers to think beyond sectors to ensure access to water, energy and food for all.
The team leader, Mr. Chae Heetae was pleased to inform the Hon. Deputy Minister of the arrival of a Korian team from the Korea Rural Community Corporation Overseas Office, Water-Energy-Food Nexus Programme(WEFP) in the country. the team is in the country to conduct fusibility studies into the potential of irrigation systems in Ghana and to partner the Government to develop these schemes to be functional to improve the livelihood of people in rural Ghana. The team is expected complete its work from the by the 10th, September 2021.
Mr Mr. Chae Heetde said the objectives of the programme is to modernise irrigation systems in Ghana for sustainable and climatic resilience agriculture. The project will among others achieve energy self-sufficiency through building of photovoltaic power plats. The programme will also ensure the distribution of new rice verities and dissemination and training for the advancement of cultivation technology for rice farming.
Receiving the delegation. Hon Mohammed Hardi Tufeiru, Deputy Minister highlighted the performance of the sector while focusing on potential key areas for investments such as Irrigation and the provision of mechanized services to smallholder farmers in the rural areas, this he said will help improve the livelihood of the rural communities in Ghana.
The Hon. Deputy minister was particularly happy because, the programme will support the agenda of expanding Rice production in Ghana
He pledged support of the Ministry and Government to ensure that, the objective of the Water-Energy-Food Nexus Programme (WEFP) is fully achieved in Ghana. The Hon. Deputy Minister urged the team to consider expanding the programme to cover the Northern part of Ghana.
The team is expected to have an exit meeting with the ministry before departure.
