
The Buipewure Abdulai Jinapur II, the Overload of the Buipe Traditional Area, has paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku at the Ministry’s Conference room in Accra.
The purpose of the meeting was to formally introduce the Savannah Farmers Brigade formed by the overload himself. The meeting also provided a platform to explore potential partnership, technical support and opportunities aimed at strengthening agricultural development, climate smart farming, farmer empowerment, manage post-harvest losses and sustainable livelihoods in the Savannah Region of Ghana.
In his remarks, the Minister, Hon. Eric Opoku emphasised that Ghana as a country remains endowed with resources and potentials for farming. “It is for this, and other reasons why H.E President John Dramani Mahama in his resetting agenda, has set agriculture as the vehicle for economic transformation”, he reiterated
Hon. Eric Opoku lauded the formation of the Farmers Brigade by the Buipewura, He drew parallels between the Farmers Brigade and the Community Commodity Farmer-Based cooperatives under the flagship Feed Ghana Programme and assured that his outfit would provide the needed supports in the areas of inputs and technical to ensure t Ghana attains Food Security and Sufficiency.
The Minister consequently accepted the invitation by Buipewure to honor the inauguration of the savannah Farmers Brigade in February 2026 and committed to attend in style.
Throwing light on the Feed Ghana Programme, the Minister revealed that the number of farmer service centres earmarked to be built as part of the Programme has increased from (50) Fifty to (70) seventy at selected Agricultural MMDAS. He assured that the Savannah Region would be considered for the Service Centres.
The farmers service centres are to provide Agricultural inputs, Mechanization Service, Extension and market linkage as a sub-set of the feed Ghana Programme.
On his part, the Vice President of the National House of Chiefs, Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II revealed that he formed the Savannah Farmers Brigade as a contribution towards the Government’s resetting agenda to use agriculture to achieve economic independence.
Again, in his quest to reduce post-harvest losses, he expressed his readiness to offer the Buipe warehouse for storage and protection of goods as a vital hub.
Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor called for a stronger partnership between his brigade and the Ministry.
