The Government has commissioned 506 newly trained Feed Ghana Brigadiers to strengthen agricultural extension delivery and support the implementation of the flagship Feed Ghana Programme across the country.

The passing-out ceremony was held on Wednesday, 8th July, 2026, at the Ghana Police Training School, Tesano, after the graduates successfully completed a two-week orientation and training programme. The brigadiers are expected to provide technical support to farmers, coordinate programme activities at the district level and help improve agricultural productivity nationwide.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, described the graduates as “a new national force for agricultural transformation”, whose deployment demonstrates the Government’s commitment to achieving food security, creating jobs, reducing food imports and building a resilient agricultural sector.

He explained that the training at the Ghana Police Training School was designed to complement their existing agricultural knowledge with discipline, teamwork, resilience, accountability and a strong sense of public service.

“These officers already possess the technical expertise required for agricultural development. The training was to prepare them for effective field operations and strengthen the commitment needed to successfully implement the Feed Ghana Programme,” he said.

The Minister noted that the brigadiers received additional briefings from the Ministry’s technical directorates on the objectives of the programme, implementation arrangements and their responsibilities within the agricultural extension system.

He emphasized that the Feed Ghana Coordinators would work closely with District Directors of Agriculture, Agricultural Extension Agents and other technical officers to complement existing extension services.

“The success of this programme will be measured by what happens on our farms and in our communities such as increased food production, improved farmer livelihoods, stronger value chains and greater confidence in Ghana’s agriculture,” he stated.

Hon. Eric Opoku added that the brigadiers would also provide agricultural advisory services to agribusinesses, households, schools and other institutions, supporting initiatives such as productive gardens and household food production.

The Chief Director of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Mr. Paul Siameh, said the passing-out ceremony marked a significant milestone in efforts to strengthen agricultural extension services in the country.

He disclosed that the graduating class comprised 420 males and 86 females, who received training in agricultural extension delivery, professional ethics, communication and report writing, digital extension methods, farm visits, crop production planning and farm record management.

The trainees also received technical presentations from various directorates of the Ministry to equip them with a broader understanding of agricultural service delivery.

Mr. Siameh urged the graduates to serve as ambassadors of agricultural transformation by working with dedication, professionalism and innovation.

The 506 Feed Ghana Brigadiers will be deployed across the country’s agricultural constituencies to improve access to extension services, enhance food production and contribute to the Government’s vision of food self-sufficiency and sustainable economic growth.
