Olam Agri Ghana has donated One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢100,000.00) to support the celebration of the 42nd National Farmers’ Day, scheduled for Friday, December 4, 2026, in Sunyani, Bono Region.

The presentation of the cheque took place on Monday, September 28, 2026, at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) in Accra.

The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku expressed appreciation to Olam Agri for supporting the National Farmers’ Day celebration and for its continued engagement with Ghanaian farmers.

He described farmers as the “mainstay, backbone and anchor of the economy,” stressing that their work sustained households, businesses and the wider economy.

Hon. Opoku said the Ministry is working to transform agriculture from a subsistence activity into a profitable business capable of attracting more young people into the sector.

He noted that the Feed Ghana Programme had contributed to increased production of key food crops, citing maize production of more than 4.6 million tonnes in 2025, compared with an estimated national demand of 3.6 million tonnes.

The Minister, however, stressed the need to strengthen storage, processing and market access to ensure that increased production translated into better incomes for farmers.

According to him, the Government had also introduced enhanced incentives for the National Best Farmer as part of efforts to recognise excellence and encourage greater investment in agriculture.

The Minister further invited Olam Agri to participate in the 42nd National Farmers’ Day celebration in Sunyani by exhibiting its products and showcasing its contribution to Ghana’s agricultural and economic development.

He assured partners that contributions towards the celebration would be transparently accounted for and used for their intended purposes.

Presenting the cheque to the Ministry, the Country Head of Olam Agri Ghana, Mr. Baibhav Biswas, said the company was pleased to partner the Ministry in honouring Ghana’s farmers for their contribution to food security and economic development.

He said Olam Agri, which has operated in Ghana for about 35 years, works closely with farmers across various value chains, including cocoa, cashew and rice, while also engaging in food processing and distribution.

“We strongly feel that farmers are the backbone of any economy, and Ghana is no exception,” Mr. Biswas said, adding that the company was committed to supporting farmers to improve productivity, efficiency and livelihoods.

He encouraged farmers to continue increasing production, noting that higher agricultural production would contribute to food security and reduce the country’s dependence on imports.

Also present at the presentation were the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr. Paul Siameh, the Technical Adviser to the Minister, Hon. Kwasi Etu Bonde, Olam Agri’s Regional Finance Controller, Mr. Raghav Mandhana, Head of Corporate Communication and Sustainability, Madam Naa Dzama Amu and Business Head for Rice, Mr. Abhra Chatterjee.

The 42nd National Farmers’ Day is being held under the theme, “Our Farmers, Our Food, Our Future,” with activities aimed at recognising the contribution of farmers and promoting increased investment in agriculture.
