The Hon. Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto on Wednesday 10th, August, 2022 unveiled and distributed a $ 95,495 million governments subsidised agriculture machinery to Farmers and Farmer Based Organizations (FBOs). This event took place at the Agricultural Engineering Services Directorate (AESD).
To improve farmers access to mechanized services, and to reduce the drudgery of farmers in the production cycle, a mechanization module was designed, under the Planting for Food and Jobs programme. This followed the importation of appropriate farm power machinery and equipment subsidised by government for sale to farmers, FBOs and enterprises.
The Ministry recently took delivery of a 3rd tranche shipment of Agricultural Machinery and Equipment under the Brazil, More Food International Programme among these equipment are, tractors ( valtra – model A70 =70 qty , New Holland – TT 75 = 50 qty , Masse Fergusson – 4265 = 30 qty , LS plus – 57 qty ) , Combine Harvesters (New Holland TC4 90 qty , Valtra BC – 4,800 = 40 qty ) other accessories (Rice Mills = 94 qty , Plantain processing Machine = 15 ) Seed cleaner 60 qty , boom sprayers ( tractor mounted Boom sprayers = 50 qty , Planters(Mechanical – 26 qty , Pneumatic – 20 qty , Seed drills – 26 qty , drying silo– 16 qty , power trillers – 200 qty , Rotovators 48 qty , Primary processing equipment’s ( Maize shellers – 259 qty , Multipurpose threshers – 90 qty , Hammer Mill – 24 qty among others .
Between 2019 and 2020, a total of 8,980 units of various machinery and equipment were imported and distributed to 927 beneficiaries made up of 33 District Assemblies and individuals.
In addition, 33 bulldozer operators have been trained in Northern, North East, Savannah, Upper East, Upper West and Bono East Regions
The Director for AESD, Mr. A. K. B. Deyang conducted the Hon. Minister and the media to inspect the machinery and equipment.
