`The donation was made possible as a result of the bumper harvest of vegetables from the Greenhouse Village module under the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) programme.
The first donation was made on Wednesday 2, September, 2020 at Nuuru Usumaniyya Orphanage in Fadama. The Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. George Oduro, in short remark to hand over the vegetables to the orphanage, said the Orphanage was the first to receive vegetables from the Greenhouse Village in Greater Accra. He further announced that, some more donations will be made at the Zongo communities and the Agogo hospital in Ashanti Region.
He said the Government of Ghana was working to end the importation of vegetables in to the country adding that the PFJ campaign initiative is aimed at a comprehensive and systematic implementation of various modules strategically targeted at priority areas of agriculture. He therefore urged every Ghanaian to get on board the programme.
The greenhouse facilities have been established at Dwahenya in the Greater Accra Region, Akumadan in the Ashanti Region and Bawjiase in the Central Region, in furtherance of the vision to revamp and modernize agriculture. These facilities come under the Greenhouse module of the PFJ programme, one of the five priorities of government.
Managers of the facilities Agritop Limited is backed by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and has accordingly taken steps in delivering high level of greenhouse solutions to producing healthy vegetables throughout the year.
Vegetables grown include: cucumber, lettuce, tomatoes, green peppers, cherry tomatoes, hot pepper, melons, etc which are of high quality and value.
