The National Chief Farmers of Ghana Cocoa Coffee and Sheanuts Farmers Association (COCOSHE) has expressed gratitude to the President and the Minister for Food and Agriculture for the increase in cocoa price for the 2023/2024 season.

To ensure higher remuneration for our hardworking farmers and enhance transparency in setting producer prices, President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced a 63.6% increase in the producer price of cocoa from GH¢12,800 per metric tonne (GH¢800.00 per bag) to GH¢20,943 per metric tonne, equivalent to GH¢1,308.99 per bag. Farmers will be paid GH¢1,308.99 for every 64-kilogram bag of cocoa beans sold to Licensed Buying companies.

Considering this, the National Chief Farmers of Ghana Cocoa Coffee and Sheanuts Farmers Association (COCOSHE) led by its President, Alhaji Bukari called on the Agriculture Sector Minister. Dr. Bryan Acheampong to express gratitude for the honor done to cocoa farmers to compensate for their efforts over the years.

The farmers appreciated the role Dr. Bryan played culminating in a great leap in the price increase for the 2023/2024 cocoa season. Alhaji Bukari indicated that the increase in commodity prices is a motivation to increase their production.

The farmers however called on the Hon Minister to intensify the fight against Galamsy and to reclaim all productive land for the sector.

Receiving the farmers, Dr. Bryan Acheampong expressed gratitude to the farmers for their key role in our national economy. The Minister said, in appreciation of this immense contribution, the president and the ministry are mindful of the very group of people whose toils and sweats have, for several decades, sustained this sector because of the hardworking cocoa farmers.
